Technology Adoption and Agricultural Productivity in Nigeria

This research examines the impact of technology adoption on agricultural productivity in Nigeria, focusing on the period from 1980 to 2023. The study analyzes agricultural productivity as the dependent variable, while independent variables include fertilizer consumption, manufacturing output, and credits to agriculture. To estimate parameters, the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression model was used. The Johansen con-integration test assessed the long-term relationships among the variables, and the Wald test was conducted to explore the causal relationship between technology adoption and agricultural productivity. The findings indicate a strong and significant positive relationship between agricultural credits and productivity. However, while the relationships between fertilizer consumption and manufacturing output with agricultural productivity were noted to be positive, the estimated relationships were not significant. Based on these results, the study recommends enhancing credit facilities for agricultural enterprises and organizing workshops to educate farmers on the benefits of adopting modern technology to boost productivity.
